Mission Statement

The New Hampshire Center for Effective Behavioral Interventions and Supports (NH CEBIS) engages schools and other youth-serving organizations in developing strategic systems and practices that promote the behavioral, social-emotional and academic growth of all children.

We do this by:

• Providing professional development for educators
• Offering high quality training, support and resources for people who interact with children
• Conducting research on the impact of positive behavioral supports
• Collaborating with other organizations to achieve common purposes
• Promoting policies that effectively support the needs of all children

Systems, Practices and Data

Every approach in our programs considers three inter-related aspects that are essential for the health of an organization's progress. These include Systems (to effectively support the people and processes within an organization), Practices (to support effective relationships between people) and Data (to support effective decision-making.)

• Research

  • Mental Health Services in NH Schools - A Report

    In April 2009, The NH Center for Public Policy Studies issued this report after a year-long study funded by the Endowment for Health. Schools play a large role in providing mental health services to children in New Hampshire, and yet there is very little coordination of funding and public policy. The report includes data on services provided, funding sources, barriers to care and opportunities for cross-sector support of children's mental health.

  • Carsey Institute report on student discipline released.

    Examples of documents used in preschools are posted here, along with information about BIRS-NH, a new online behavioral database specifically designed for use with young children.

  • OSEP Center Northeast PBIS Network Leadership Forum

    The OSEP Center on Positive Behavioral Interventions announces the first Northeast PBIS Network Leadership Forum, where you can join in developing a professional PBIS network that will enhance the capacity to work smarter and more effectively on PBIS framework implementation in the northeast. Dates are: May 17-18, 2012. REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN! Keynote speakers include Catherine Bradshaw, Susan Barrett, Lucile Eber and George Sugai. For more information or to register, click here.

  • NEW! Two newly published articles on PBIS in early childhood centers in NH

    The authors, including Dr. Howard Muscott, Tina Pomerleau and Stacy Szczesiul, provide insight and research results from implementing PBIS in early child care centers. The articles appear in the Spring 2009 issues of the National Head Start Association's Dialog journal.   • PBIS-NH and MAST-NH Initiatives Honored as State Exemplar for School-Based Mental Health Programs

    On May 7, Dr. Howard Muscott briefed Congress on New Hampshire's successful outcomes, systems, data and practices to mark Children's Mental Health Awareness Day. He joined Goldie Hawn, Academy-Award Winning Actress and Children’s Mental Health Advocate, and Kathryn Power, Director of the Center for Mental Health Services within Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Howard presented on the positive outcomes achieved in New Hampshire with Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS-NH) and the statewide work in linking schools with the community mental health system (MAST-NH).

    The briefing focused on Investing in the Educational Future of Youth with Mental Health Needs and the value of effective school-based mental health programs.
